When reporting on live television, anything can happen. Shannon Murray, a TV reporter for KDFW in Dallas, just proved that no matter what does happen, the show must go on.
While reporting live on location at the Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport this week, Shannon was forced to share the spotlight with an unlikely visitor: a GIANT spider. Viewers couldn’t help but be distracted from Shannon’s calm, cool, and collected delivery of the news, as the huge spider, who decided to make a cameo, crawled up and down her left arm. Good Day Fox 4 shared a short clip of the segment to its Facebook page, titled “Good Day Spider,” where the spider is clearly visible.
It turns out, though, that Shannon didn’t even realize it was a spider until afterward — resulting in her keeping an unbelievably cool demeanor throughout the segment. “I felt something on me. I had no idea it was a spider! I figured it was a mosquito or something,” the TV reporter tells Teen Vogue. “I thought it was hilarious when a viewer told me on Facebook that I had a spider on me! But then when I actually saw the video, I was totally creeped out. I could not believe how big it was!” *Shudder.*
In just one day, Good Day Fox 4’s video has already amassed over 20,000 views. “The reaction has been insane. I spent quite a bit of time Wednesday responding to Twitter and Facebook comments,” Shannon tells Teen Vogue. Shortly after the broadcast, Shannon took to Twitter to share just how shocked she was by the experience. “WHY DO BAD THINGS HAPPEN TO GOOD PEOPLE?” she joked. The only answer to that question in the age of the internet is: So that they can go viral. Check out the video, below.
